HAF (Holiday Activities and Food)

Devon County Council is working with local providers to coordinate a programme of activities and healthy meals for the school holidays. The scheme is designed to support children to eat more healthily, be more active over the school holidays and have a greater knowledge of health and nutrition as well as be more engaged with school and other local services.

What is HAF?

Places will be prioritised for school aged children and young people from reception to year 11 (inclusive) who are receiving benefit-related free school meals, and their families.

What is the aim of HAF?

The Department for Education (DfE) funded Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) programme aims to support children, young people and families eligible for HAF to:

  • Eat more healthily over the school holidays and try new foods

  • Are more active during the school holidays

  • Take part in engaging and enriching activities which support the development of resilience, character and wellbeing along with their wider educational attainment

  • Are safe and not so socially isolated

  • Have a greater knowledge of health and nutrition

  • Are more engaged with school and other local services

  • Are able to develop their understanding of nutrition and food budgeting

  • Are signposted towards other information and support, for example, health, employment and education

What will we be doing?

Using bushcraft and forest school skills, you will participate in a range of activities such as fire lighting, building shelters, and crafting outdoor items. All of these tasks revolve around the central focus of campfire cooking, allowing you to experience the joys of preparing and enjoying meals in the great outdoors.
